I did a presentation on «The Legacy of Soviet Disability Organising as a Barrier for Grassroots and Cross-Disability Movement in Uzbekistan».


27 October 2021, Public discussion on «Urban planning norms and rules, taking into account the needs of persons with disabilities and people with limited mobility» organised by the Association of Disabled People of Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and UNDP Uzbekistan, «The role of disabled people’s organisations in overseeing the implementation of Planning Rules and Regulations (SHNK)».

30 September 2021, International Public Discussion on the «Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in Uzbekistan» supported by the European Union through the European Facility for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) and implemented by the International Commission of Lawyers (ICJ).

28 June 2021, Webster University in Tashkent, a virtual seminar hosted by Steve Swerdlow, Associate Professor of Political Science and International Relations and a regional expert of Uzbekistan, as part of his 5-week summer course «International Relations: Current Issues in Human Rights» I did a presentation on the theme «Is Disability a Human Rights Issue in Uzbekistan?»

3 July 2020, The Role of Education in Preventing Domestic Violence in Uzbekistan, Webinar in Uzbek organised by an online media outlet Uzbekistan with a Female Voice’What is domestic violence? What are the negative consequences of it? What are the barriers to women’s education? Disabled women are at higher risk of becoming victims of domestic violence and it is more difficult for them to seek help. Are there any effective projects in Uzbekistan to promote gender equality? 27 May 2020, NGOs in Uzbekistan and the impact of COVID-19 on their work, Webinar in Uzbek organised by Ijtimoiy Tadbirkorlik Maktabi (School of Social Entrepreneurship). The recording of the webinar is available here. I talked about the difference between systemic and self-initiated NGOs in Uzbekistan, trends and events in civil society during the COVID-19 pandemic and the impact of strict quarantine measures on the development of the third sector. The main message is that the government of Uzbekistan centralised and monopolised charity allocation through a single government-organised public fund and the Sponsorship Coordination Centre while the activities of volunteer groups and civil society organisations were restricted.
