I had a chance to participate in the summer school for young researchers organised by the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in Central Asia, the OSCE Academy in Bishkek and the Analytics School The idea behind organising this summer school was to prepare Central Asian scholars to write analytically about Central Asia. So I was chosen with four other scholars from Uzbekistan along with other 15 people from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Unfortunately, Turkmenistan was not present as it always happens at such conferences, workshops or trainings.

Over seven days, we learned how to write analytical articles and policy papers including creative ways of data visualisation, quantitative and qualitative methods of data analysis and writing up. We had both international and Central Asian trainers and facilitators. But the most important thing is that this summer school provided us with the opportunity to connect with other researchers from neighbouring countries.

I personally have not been to Kazakhstan or Tajikistan yet and would love to go there some day. I am not dreaming of going to Turkmenistan though. 🙂 This year is organising a second summer school for young researchers and if you are from Central Asia I would really encourage you to apply. The deadline for applications is 17 23:59 (GMT +6).
